Loveless 12 — Endless

July 6, 2005, 10:37 pm

In true Japanese fashion when working with an ongoing manga source, the Loveless anime ends without answering most of the questions it posed simply because they don’t know the answers to those questions yet themselves. However, also in true Japanese fashion, they manage to do it and make it look so pretty that you don’t really care.

The whole dream sequence thing was kind of trippy, but it was pulled off really well. The fact that it ended up basically being a test of Ritsuka’s assertiveness and a demonstration of how much he’s grown throughout the course of the series was a really nice touch, I thought.

Overall, for what it’s worth, I really enjoyed Loveless. While I wished that this last episode could have at least attempted to wrap a few things up, I would much rather they end the series this way rather than try and make up their own answers. I’m going to be buying this series on R2J DVD, just because I enjoyed it enough to want to own it, but fear that it will either never be licensed, or licensed and then not given the treatment it deserves.

I’ll miss watching this series, and really hope that they make a second season. Yays.

Loveless 11 — Warless

Um, okay, so… plot? Come back? Please? I’ll give you a cookie…

This episode wasn’t bad. Not at all. I really enjoyed it because it was random and fun. But when you only have two episodes left in a twelve episode series, you don’t make a happy random fun episode. Not if you want to actually wrap up your plot. But yeah, after this I have little hope that this series will have a conclusive ending. There’s just too much there, and I was unsure whether or not it would get wrapped up in two episodes… I’m positive that it won’t get wrapped up in just one.

But it was cute!! Soubi and Ritsuka holding hands is like the cutest thing ever. And it amuses me that Kio is like Soubi’s version of Yuiko. They’re both annoying sidekicks that won’t freaking go away or die or anything. Also, is it bad that I was laughing hysterically when Yuiko was freaking out on the ferris wheel? I almost wanted her to fall out. She is so irritating. Yayoi must be on the crack or something.

Also, why the heck do Kio, Hitomi, and Ritsuka all have the same therapist? Is there only one therapist in the whole city? Holy geez.

I am going to obtain internet at Anime Expo next weekend just to download episode 12. It will be a thing of beauty (and hopefully plot!).

Loveless 10 — Nameless

When I first started watching Loveless, I had no idea it would suck me in as much as it did. This show just absolutely captivates me from beginning to end, something that I haven’t really experienced since Fullmetal Alchemist ended its run.

At this point, Ritsuka is finally starting to come into his own as a Sacrifice, and it’s really neat to kind of see him grow in that way. Still, I fear that this series is going to go the same way as many other series based on ongoing manga; the plot is never really going to be resolved in the anime version, and there will be a lot more unanswered questions when we get to the end. With only 2 episodes left in this series, I fail to see how all of the questions about Seimei and Ritsuka’s true Fighter are going to be answered.

Even so, this ep was awesome. I’m rather sad that Yamato and Kouya’s role is done; they were really captivating characters, even with the yuriness. I especially liked Yamato’s character; her exchange with Ritsuka at the kissaten was wonderful.

Two more episodes to go, I suppose. I simply do not want this show to end.
