Jigoku Shoujo 01 — From Beyond the Twilight

Man, what a creepy show. Of course, with a name like “Hell Girl” and hearing it compared to things like Death Note, what did I really expect?

I like that this show seems to be of an episodic nature, which works really well with creepy shows like this. It was kind of painful to watch poor Mayumi get abused like that, but it was all okay, since Aya got her comeuppance (and got it good, mwahahaha).

I find it somehow funny that Enma Ai (aka Jigoku Shoujo) has the same seiyuu as Anna from Monster and Shimako from Marimite. She does kind of sound like a hellish combination of the two.

Overall, I can’t really say how I feel about this show just yet. It’s an intriguing idea, but I wouldn’t call it Death Note good or Monster good. It will take a few more episodes to see if it gets to that level after all.
