RahXephon DVD 6-7 — Episodes 20-26
July 24, 2005, 7:32 pmI finally decided to just get it over with and marathon the end of this series, and it really made me wish that I had been more concientious and watched the whole thing without huge gaps in between. RahXephon is really one of those shows where you just plain don’t catch everything the first time through, and I’d also like to watch the dub (since Chris Patton, one of my favorite voice actors, plays Ayato), so I will be watching it again in the near future.
[spoiler paragraphs - highlight to read]:
Well, I must say I was surprised a bit by the ending of this thing. I was very pleased that Haruka and Ayato finally confessed to each other, since I’m a big romantic and I wanted them to at least tell one another how they felt before everything went to hell like I knew it was going to. I’m not certain that I really understood what happened after Ayato merged with the RahXephon, though, and I definitely didn’t understand what was going on right before the end credits with older Ayato and Haruka and baby Quon. Seriously, what the heck? But it’s a mech show, and those rarely make sense in the end. Of course, now that I’ve had time to reflect, I realize what was going on, but it was quite confusing at the time. The end of a show like this always has way too many things going on for me to keep up with everything.
Thank god that we got to see who Mishima Reika really was. The idea that she was 14-year-old Haruka was very tantalizing to me, so I’m glad that it was actually true. Which of course means that Haruka was what Ayato really desired, since she (as he remembered her, albeit slightly wrong) was the form that the RahXephon’s soul took. And I am such a romantic that it just kills me sometimes.

I can’t wait to watch this series again and really catch everything. As it is, I feel like the first time through it was too much eye candy for me to really delve into the story. That’ll be for the second time (which will also be easier since it’ll be dubbed). But that will be for sometime in the future.
In closing, I don’t know why I didn’t notice it before now, but the fact that Yagumo has the same seiyuu as Murata Ken from Kyou Kara Maou was really disconcerting. Just because it’s weird to hear Muraken’s voice talking about military stuff. But maybe it’s just me.

RahXephon DVD 5 — Episodes 17-19
July 6, 2005, 11:23 pmI’ve been taking my sweet time to watch this series, partially because I bought the DVDs out of order, and partially because it can be fairly difficult for me to digest sometimes. It’s one of those very pretty, deeply symbolic shows that you have to be in a certain mindset to watch and appreciate completely.
At this point, I’m not surprised anymore at people turning out to be Mulians. Ayato’s mom being one was kind of a shock at the beginning, but Mamoru and Asahina weren’t really. I dunno why. I guess that I was kind of hoping that Asahina wouldn’t be one after we found out that Mamoru was, but at the same time it wasn’t really a huge shock or anything.
Even though I’m a huge Ayato/Haruka shipper, and was basically screaming at Asahina to get away from Ayato all through episode 19, I still feel really bad for what happened to her. It was really tragic. Even so, now she won’t freaking get in the way of the real OTP anymore. Mwaha, I am relentless.
Quon weirds me out a little bit.
